Government of Cambodia must speedily investigate enforced disappearance of Mr. Wanchalerm Satyasakdisith

         Referring to the case of Mr. Wanchalerm Satyasakdisith, a Thai political refugee aged 37 who was staying in Cambodia and was subject to enforced disappearance from the front of a condominium in Phnom Pehn at 5.54 pm on 4th June 2020 as being widely reported in the mass media,

         Union for Civil Liberty (UCL) is gravely worried about the fate of Mr. Wanchalerm Satyasakdisith because fate of many Thai refugees who had faced similar situation is still not known until today.  Union for Civil Liberty see that by being a state party to the UN International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Government of Cambodia has a duty to respect and observe this treaty which states in Article 6 that “Every human being has the inherent right to life. This right shall be protected by law. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his life.”  Union for Civil Liberty therefore demand that the Government of Cambodia speedily investigate this case in order to establish the fate of Mr. Wanchalerm Satyasakdisith and should disclose information about his whereabouts to his relatives and other concerned people the soonest possible and also provide information if actions related to him were results of a request made by the Royal Thai Government.
