This\npolitical crisis urgently needs a political solution. We\nthink that the so-called \u201can eye for\nan eye\u201d approach and the dissemination of fake news only\nlead to meta-conflict dominated by reactions and polarization. A new approach based on mutually acceptable principle is\nneeded. Each party to the conflict should be able to\nexpress its grievances and demands to the other parties and to the public. It is normal that there be opposing\ndemands. At this stage it may be alright if the demands\nare clearly stated and genuinely heard by other parties. This\nnew approach may help build on the necessary confidence that would be conducive\nto direct or mediated negotiation.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>We believe that people have the rights to express\ntheir opinion and to peacefully assemble. We believe that\nthe government and the police have the duty to respect those rights and to keep\norder in accordance to the law and international standards without the use of\nexcessive force. In case of demonstrations, we urge the\norganizers to take precaution to avoid violence and to keep any provocateurs at\nbay. We also urge the police to observe maximum restraints.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; We also call on the Chinese government\nnot to send security forces into Hong Kong. It should\ncontinue to observe the Basic Law 1997 that outlines the \u201cone\ncountry two systems\u201d for Hong Kong.
